TORONTO, Oct. 26 (AP) -- Andrea Bargnani had 17 points and eight rebounds to lead the Toronto Raptors to a 98-64 rout of the Washington Wizards in the final preseason game for both teams Friday night. Jason Kapono scored 12 points for Toronto, while Juan Dixon and Carlos Delfino finished with 10 apiece. DeShawn Stevenson had 12 points for the Wizards. The Raptors led from the outset Friday, making it look easy against a sloppy Wizards squad, and took a 29-point lead into the fourth quarter. With a collection of bench players for both teams on the court for the final few minutes, the athletic Jamario Moon scored on an alley-oop dunk that brought the crowd to its feet with just under two minutes to play. Luke Jackson sunk a 3-pointer the next time down the floor to make it 96-64 for Toronto, and the Raptors cruised to an easy win to finish their exhibition schedule 5-2. The Wizards dropped to 4-4. Toronto has looked solid in its past two games, and has plenty of reason to be optimistic about the regular season, which starts Wednesday when the Raptors host the Philadelphia 76ers in their opener. Toronto shot 49 percent and held Washington to 37 percent shooting. The Raptors outrebounded the Wizards 47-30.

Caron Butler scored 29 points, Antawn Jamison had 28, and the Washington Wizards beat the Toronto Raptors 101-97 Saturday night in a game in which each team was missing its best player. Butler went 10-for-18 from the field and added seven assists. Jamison was 11-for-18 and had 14 rebounds for the Wizards, who broke a two-game losing streak by shooting 56 percent. The Wizards improved to 5-4 without Gilbert Arenas, who is out several months with a knee injury, while Toronto is 1-1 without Chris Bosh, who did not make the trip because of a strained right groin. Jason Kapono scored a season-high 23 points for the Raptors, and rookie Jamario Moon set season highs with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Anthony Parker scored 18 points. Both teams were playing the second night of back-to-back games, and neither was able to put on any sort of run that threatened to take control of the game. A modest 8-2 spurt gave the Wizards a 96-87 lead with 2:51 to play, but Washington had to sweat out the final possessions after Kapono's three-pointer cut the lead to four in the final minute. Butler, who has already made more three-pointers this season than all of last season, started the game by making three in a row from nearly the same spot behind the arc on the left wing. Later in the first quarter, Butler made an acrobatic steal near the sidelines to start a fast break and finished it off by receiving a pass from Antonio Daniels for a dunk. The Wizards couldn't build on the momentum, however, and Kapono had a hot streak of his own in the second quarter to give the Raptors an eight-point lead. Washington responded with an 11-0 run, capped by Jamison's layup, and led 52-45 at halftime. The Wizards took a double-digit lead in the third quarter, but Carlos Delfino quickly erased much of the deficit with a pair of three-pointers. Butler hit a three late in the quarter to put Washington ahead 78-75 going into the fourth. The Raptors missed eight of their first 10 shots in the final period, allowing the Wizards to go ahead by nine. A pair of dunks by Moon helped cut the lead to three, but Butler's jumper capped the 8-2 spurt that provided just enough cushion down the stretch. Notes: The Wizards retired Earl Monroe's jersey at halftime. ``The Pearl'' played with the Baltimore Bullets from 1967-71, before the franchise moved to Washington. ... Before tipoff, the team presented a video tribute to slain Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor. There was also a moment of silence for Taylor, who died Tuesday after being shot at his home in Florida. ... The Wizards also commemorated the 10th anniversary of the Verizon Center, which opened Dec. 2, 1997, with a 95-78 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics and President Bill Clinton in attendance.

Andrea Bargnani scored 19 points as Toronto matched its biggest victory in Raptors history on Wednesday with a 122-83 win over the Washington Wizards. Chris Bosh finished with 16 points in 20 minutes. Anthony Parker finished with 15, Juan Dixon had 12, Jose Calderon had 11 points and 11 assists, and Carlos Delfino finished with 11 points. The victory was the sixth straight at home for Toronto (25-20), and also a chance at some payback after the Raptors had been burned the previous night in Washington, losing to the Wizards 108-104 in overtime. DeShawn Stevenson topped the Wizards (24-20) with 16 points, while former Raptor Roger Mason finished with 14. The Raptors led from the opening whistle Wednesday, and then left little to chance, breaking the game open with a strong second-quarter performance in which they outscored the Wizards 33-18. Toronto was up 95-64 with one quarter left in the game, and with the starters on the bench, all that was left was for the second unit to wrap up the victory. And that they did. Seldom-used Maceo Baston wowed the crowd when he took flight for couple of alley-oop dunks in the dying minutes, his second off a pass from Joey Graham giving the Raptors a 37-point lead with four minutes left in the game. The victory tied the 39-point margin Toronto scored over Atlanta in a 112-73 win on April 12, 2002. The game was also a welcome break for Bosh, who played just 20 minutes after logging a gruelling 50 the previous night, and Calderon, who was on the court for just 26 minutes. The Raptors shot a sizzing 57 per cent on the night, and were 13-for-18 from three-point range. They also edged the Wizards on the boards 38-36. Rebounding had a been a glaring weakness for Toronto in the team's loss the previous night. Raptors coach Sam Mitchell had been livid after his team was outrebounded 57-44 in Washington, and rebounding was the topic when he addressed the team before the rematch. ``There was no yelling, there was no screaming, there wasn't much to say, it was self-explanatory,'' Mitchell said. ``Like I told them before and I'll tell them again, defensively we're pretty good, and I understand there's nights we give up athleticism, we give up bulk, we give up height. ``But until we figure out a way and understand, hey the guy's bigger, stronger, a little quicker, we've got to box him out. We've got to be smarter about boxing out, we've got to take some chances and be aggressive.'' The Raptors had the hot hand from the start, beginning the game with a 12-0 run. They shot 52 per cent in the quarter, and led 28-23 heading into the second. Toronto turned it up a notch in the second, outscoring the Wizards 33-18 in the quarter. The Raptors took a 20-point lead when Bargnani sunk a pair of free throws with a minute to play, and headed to the locker-room up 61-41. With Bosh leading the way with 12 points in the quarter, the Raptors didn't let up in the third, shooting 63 per cent in the quarter. They took a 95-64 advantage into the fourth. NOTES: The Raptors host the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday, then are Miami on Monday. . . Moon was named to the rookie team for NBA all-star weekend in New Orleans earlier Wednesday, while Bargnani was named to the sophomore squad.

It's nights like Friday, when the game's on the line and a veteran's poise is sorely needed, that the Toronto Raptors really miss Chris Bosh. Antawn Jamison had 25 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Washington Wizards to a 110-106 overtime victory over the Raptors, who played their fourth consecutive game without their all-star forward. ``You miss (Bosh) throughout the whole game...there are just certain plays Chris can make and other people can't make,'' said Raptors coach Sam Mitchell. ``You can put the ball in his hands and create matchups that other players just can't, double teams and things of that nature.'' Andrea Bargnani had 27 points to top Toronto (33-28). Jose Calderon added 20 points and nine assists, while Carlos Delfino scored 17 points, Anthony Parker finished with 15, and Jamario Moon had 13. The Raptors are 1-3 without Bosh during this most recent injury, a sore right knee that's expected to keep him out at least part if not all of the upcoming five-game Western road trip, a key stretch in the final push to the playoffs. They're 3-6 on the season without their leading scorer and rebounder. ``We miss Chris every game,'' said Parker. ``But I don't think that's an excuse, we just didn't execute down the stretch.'' The Raptors trailed for much of the night against their Eastern Conference rival but finally found their game in the third quarter, when they parlayed an 11-point deficit into an eight-point lead. Toronto went into the fourth up 74-68 in front of a capacity crowd of 19,800 at the Air Canada Centre. The Raptors allowed Washington back into the game with some defensive lapses in the fourth, and trailed the Wizards by five before a three-pointer by Parker cut the deficit to two. A pair of free throws by Bargnani with 13.9 seconds left sent the game into extra time. Neither team led by more than a basket in overtime until Jamison's four free throws. His second pair of free throws, with 30 seconds left, came thanks to a mental miscue by Bargnani, who fouled the Wizard veteran when he shouldn't have. ``We weren't supposed to foul because we knew if we were to get a miss we would get the ball back,'' Mitchell said. ``Those things happen sometimes. But we played hard, all the guys played hard, and it was just a tough basketball game.'' The Raptors were lucky to still be in the game, as the Wizards shot 50 per cent and held Toronto to 39. The Raptors' also missed Bosh's presence on the boards, outrebounded 49-38 by the visitors. Rasho Nesterovic topped Toronto with 12 rebounds. ``Defensively we could have done a better job at times, but to give yourself a chance and shoot the way we did, the effort was there,'' Parker said. Former Raptor Roger Mason Jr. added 18 for the Wizards (30-31). ``It was a hard fought game from both sides,'' Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said. ``Both teams competed, everyone played like men out there. That's what this league is about. It was an exciting game.'' Bargnani's strong performance came on the heels of speculation he may not play Friday after a frightening collision with the Heat's Alexander Johnson in Miami on Wednesday. Bargnani left the game in the third quarter after he was elbowed hard to the court, and the sophomore centre said his mouth was still very sore Friday. Johnson was suspended a game for the foul. Without Bosh, Bargnani carried the load in the frontcourt from the opening whistle, scoring Toronto's first eight points en route to 10 in the first quarter. Still, the Raptors dug themselves a 10-point deficit with some shoddy shooting and rebounding in the quarter and trailed the Wizards 29-20 heading into the second. Delfino's hustle helped Toronto pull even at 35-35 early in the fourth quarter, when he finished off his third steal in just over two minutes with a driving dunk. But the Wizards used an 11-2 run to go back up by nine points and took a 53-45 advantage into halftime. The Raptors poured it on the third behind nine points from Calderon, and took an eight-point lead late in the quarter with a 19-2 run. Toronto led 74-68 with one quarter left. NOTES: Raptors newcomer Primoz Brezec earned himself a technical for arguing a call in the second quarter. He sat the remainder of the game...Toronto hosts Seattle on Sunday, then embarks on a five-game road trip out West that begins Tuesday against the Lakers in L.A.
