Just when the Miami Heat thought they finally hit rock bottom, along came more indignity. Chris Bosh scored 24 points, Andrea Bargnani added 22 and the Toronto Raptors handed the hapless Heat their biggest loss of the season Monday night, a 114-82 debacle that was never a contest. The Raptors shot 66 per cent through the first three quarters, jumped out to a 23-point lead in the first quarter and wound up leading by as many as 39 in the final minutes. ``It would be hard for us to play much better,'' Toronto coach Sam Mitchell said. In the other locker room, the opposite sentiment existed. Dorell Wright scored 17 points, while Mark Blount and Dwyane Wade each added 12 for Miami, which has lost 19 of its past 20 overall, 10 of its past 11 at home. Not that many were around to see it; the arena that hosts the team with the NBA's worst record (9-37) had thousands of empty seats. ``Like my rookie year,'' Wade said. Chris Quinn scored 11 points and Alexander Johnson had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Miami, which committed 21 turnovers that led to 30 Toronto points. And afterward, Heat coach Pat Riley simply seemed at a loss for answers. ``We're going to have to do some evaluation here,'' Riley said. Anthony Parker scored 18 points for the Raptors. Jose Calderon had 11 points and 10 assists for Toronto, and Jason Kapono _ in his first trip back to Miami after the Heat chose not to re-sign him in the off-season _ scored 13 points on 6-for-10 shooting. Not only did the Raptors get a win, they also got guard T.J. Ford back. Ford, who hadn't played since colliding with Atlanta rookie Al Horford on Dec. 11, entered with 9:55 left in the second quarter. He finished with four points and four assists in 18 minutes, a driving dunk capping his night with 38.1 seconds left. ``I don't think people expected me to come in and do the things that I normally do,'' Ford said. The Raptors led 89-62 after three quarters, went up 100-66 on Kris Humphries' short hook with 9:13 left, and flirted with the Los Angeles Lakers' NBA-season-best mark of shooting 66.2 per cent from the floor until their reserves clanged a few shots down the stretch. ``We executed offensively, hit some shots,'' Parker said. ``Defensively we did a decent job in the first quarter and from there we just kept the pressure on them.'' During a stoppage in play late in the first quarter, Heat owner Micky Arison and his son Nicholas, sitting in their customary centre-court seats, were both laughing. Must have been one heck of a joke. They can't be finding humour in the on-court product. Miami's 23-point first-quarter deficit was a season-low, as the Raptors came out and hit 12 of their first 15 shots on the way to a 33-10 early lead. Bosh had 12 points in the quarter, matching Miami's team total, and the Raptors wound up taking a 21-point edge into the second. ``Too quick, too efficient, too ready, too good,'' Riley said. ``That was Toronto in the first quarter. An absolute clinic.'' Miami got within 53-41 when Wade found Ricky Davis for a layup with 2:26 left in the half, before the Raptors closed the period on a 6-0 spurt. And in the third, all comeback hopes ended. Bargnani and Parker combined to shoot 6-for-9 in the third, Toronto outscored Miami 30-21 in the period to take an 89-62 lead into the fourth. Wade got the rest of the night off, and the Raptors kept pouring it on. ``Terrible basketball,'' Wade said. ``Maybe it's getting away.'' Notes: Kapono made his first four shots. ... The Heat were without Montreal native Joel Anthony and ex-Raptor Luke Jackson (both with flu), while Shaquille O'Neal (hip) and Udonis Haslem (ankle) both remained out with injuries. Haslem won't travel on Miami's trip to Detroit and Philadelphia later this week. ... Wade's oldest son, Zaire, turned 6 Monday.

I usually like to leave game recaps up to Hoopsencyclopedia because he's "the man" for it, but I've taken it upon myself to cover a game that on the surface may not mean a lot, but underneath went on to hold it's own high-value for multiple reasons. To many young fans today, this isn't exactly a historical game - and for good reason. In the context of basketball history, not many regular season games are truly memorable, classic, or historical. But many also become classics in their own right, for records made, or for final meetings. This one has a little mix of everything - including Toronto's largest ever crowd of over 36,000 fans at the Sky Dome. In their previous meeting of the '95-'96 season Michael was the acclaimed "Raptor killer", sinking the Raptors and posting 14 fourth quarter points. In this game, he posts 36 points on 63.6% shooting (14-22) with 15 in the fourth quarter. Amazingly, 13 of his 15 fourth quarter points come in the last 4 minutes and 20 seconds of playing time. These were the games of his post-baseball career (seemingly happened a lot in 95-96) that made you wish his team wasn't as great as it was, just so you could see him continue to light it up all game long. Unfortunately, Michael never did anything that wasn't necessary. The expansion team, Toronto Raptors, face off against Michael Jordan and a Bulls team that went on to win an all time NBA record of 72 regular season wins. But what the 36,131 fans that packed the Sky Dome on this night may not realise, is that they were watching a story filled with subplots unfold upon the hardwood of a basketball court. Michael Jordan. Alvin Robertson. Damon Stoudamire. Chicago Bulls. Toronto Raptors. 72. 8. What people don't realise, though, is that the Raptors that year were actually stacked with talent that could do harm in any league of any era had they have had the correct team chemistry, confidence, and playing time required to do so. Damon Stoudamire was a rookie, who, in my opinion is one of the most underrated PG talents of our generation. In the 95-96 season, he went on to win ROY and set multiple records including a then record 133 3PT FG's for a rookie. He was also chasing second place for most assists by a rookie, on the tail of Oscar Robertson. He went on to post 19.0ppg and 9.3apg (something that the top PGs of the league today fail to do), while setting multiple franchise records for the Toronto Raptors that still stand today, including most assists by a player (19). In this game, he seemed to be having a shoot out with Steve Kerr and Michael Jordan. Damon posted 30 points, 11 assists and went 6-8 from three point land. Then there's the subplot of Michael vs. Robertson. Great friends, old team mates ('84 olympics), and fierce competitors. History has it, that this would be the last time either of the old timers would face off against each other in professional competition (Robertson retired after '96). For those of you who don't know much about Alvin Robertson, he's perhaps one of the greatest perimiter, roaming, and lock down defenders to ever play the game. He's 1st all-time in steals per game, and he has an anticipation that many see players such as Bruce Bowen to have today. It's no coincidence or conspiracy that he was named DPOY in '85-'86. While both players here are far past their athletic and statistical prime (Jordan 33, Alvin 34), they don't fail to impress and excite. Alvin plays Jordan's turnarounds like only few could; they battle hard for position and trash talk each other all night long. It's also notable that Alvin averaged 2.2 steals per game this season, which would've been good enough for first place in 06-07. Of course, Michael was no defensive slouch either ;), coincidentally averaging 2.2spg. With far too much already said... I'll leave the game to unfold. Enjoy.

The Bulls' dismal start has T.J. Ford confused. Carlos Delfino scored 16 points and Chris Bosh added 14 points and six rebounds to help the Toronto Raptors beat the listless Chicago Bulls 101-71 on Saturday night. The Raptors made quick work out of the Bulls despite playing their fourth game in five nights. "What's going on with this team?'' Ford said. Ford had 14 assists and Andrea Bargnani scored 14 points for Toronto, which had its largest win against Chicago in franchise history. Leading 41-30 at the half, the Raptors opened up the third quarter by outscoring the Bulls 14-1 for a 52-31 lead. Anthony Parker hit a 3 and Jamario Moon stole Luol Deng's bad pass and took it for a breakaway dunk to give the Raptors a 21-point lead that started the boos from the sellout crowd. Toronto coach Sam Mitchell started Moon to match up against Deng. It was the first start in the league for the 27-year old rookie and he held Deng to 2-of-7 shooting. "We thought we could use his defense against this team,'' Mitchell said. "I started him because I felt like taking a roll of the dice, I would take a chance tonight.'' Bulls coach Scott Skiles cleared his starters from the floor with 9:35 left in the third quarter, but it didn't help as Parker immediately hit another 3 against the Chicago reserves. Luol Deng, Tyrus Thomas, Ben Wallace, Ben Gordon and Hinrich never returned to the game. "I never want to do that. On a night when the boo-birds are out I don't want to embarrass the group like that,'' Skiles said. "I thought I would take a gamble right there to see if someone could come into the game and be a catalyst for us. I felt like in unison that group was not performing really well.'' Andres Nocioni led Chicago with 20 points. The vibe hasn't been good in Chicago since the Bulls were involved in Kobe Bryant trade rumors less than two weeks ago. General manager John Paxson put to rest the Kobe Bryant trade rumors less than a week ago, but some fans continued to chant "Kobe! Kobe! Kobe!'' while the Bulls were down 30-plus points in the third quarter. "Obviously the Kobe chants is something that never seems like it will never stop being talked about. We understand the crowd's frustration. We're very frustrated as well,'' Hinrich said. Ford thought the chants have been wearing on the Bulls. "I'm pretty sure for what it seemed it looked like it kind of affected the guys, but I'm not sure. I'm not in the locker room.'' Notes: Before Saturday's game, the Raptors dropped 15 of their last 17 games against Chicago. ... The restless Bulls fans started the wave in the fourth quarter.

Finally, the Toronto Raptors were able to enjoy the comforts of home Wednesday. Anthony Parker poured in 22 points as the Raptors avoided their fourth consecutive loss at the Air Canada Centre with a 109-96 win over the Philadelphia 76ers. ``That's big for us, we need to capitalize on this stretch while we have home games,'' said Chris Bosh, who scored 21 points on the night. ``We just need to pick up our play, we need to continue to believe in ourselves and play with a lot of energy at home because it's definitely an advantage that we need to take.'' Jose Calderon finished with 17 points and nine assists for Toronto (18-17). Carlos Delfino finished with 12 points to lead a solid performance by the bench, and Jamario Moon added eight points, nine rebounds and five blocks. ``We are trying to get easy baskets which opens things up and I think Chris has just been efficient and A.P. (Parker) has played well, Jose has been just steady,'' said Raptors coach Sam Mitchell. ``We're trying to make a conscious effort to get some easy baskets.'' Willie Green had 18 points to top the Sixers (14-22), while Andre Iguodala and Thaddeus Young had 16 apiece. Sixers centre Samuel Dalembert of Montreal finished with eight points and six rebounds. The lead changed hands numerous times through the first half before Toronto broke open the game with a sizzling third quarter in front of 18,067 fans. Bosh led the way with 10 points in the period as the Raptors outscored their visitors 27-16 and took a 79-66 advantage into the fourth. Six consecutive points from Iguodala cut Toronto's lead to just five points midway through the fourth, but that was as close as the Sixers would come. Parker's three with 2:21 left put the Raptors up 103-89, their biggest lead of the game to that point and the Raptors cruised to victory, putting an end to concerns about playing at the ACC this season. Last season, the Raptors had one of the best home records in the NBA, losing just 10 games in Toronto. They've already lost eight this year. But with eight games at the ACC in January, a favourable stretch at home would do plenty to boost the Raptors' placing in the jam-packed Eastern Conference. ``It's important we start doing that on the regular,'' Parker said, of closing out games at home. Parker, meanwhile, shot 8-for-11 from the field in the lastest in of a string of strong performances. ``I had a couple of 2-for-11 games, so it's just the law of percentages, and I'm sure it won't stay 8-for-11 for long,'' Parker said. ``Coaches put some new sets in, and we're getting a lot more motion, and a lot of people are touching the ball and getting some action. I don't think we're working as hard for baskets as we were earlier in the year.'' The Sixers have had problems of their own closing out tight contests. ``I am upset that we are not playing up to our ability late in games,'' Iguodala said. ``Sometimes we get down in the game mentally. It is just tough losing, that is what it is.''

T.J. Ford was on the bench in street clothes and Chris Bosh had long since limped to the locker-room with a groin strain when the Toronto Raptors surged ahead of the Memphis Grizzlies for good Wednesday. The injury-depleted Raptors displayed the depth of their roster once again en route to a 103-91 win over the visiting Memphis Grizzlies. ``That's our strength, especially with such a long season, so many things can happen,'' said Anthony Parker. Parker finished with 19 points to top Toronto (8-7), which used a balanced attack to beat the struggling Grizzlies, with seven players scoring in double figures. Jose Calderon added 13 points and 10 assists and committed just one turnover while Carlos Delfino and Jason Kapono scored 14 apiece. Andrea Bargnani finished with 11, while Rasho Nesterovic pitched in with 10. Chris Bosh had 10 points before leaving the game in the second quarter with a strained right groin, the one negative on the night. Bosh said he'd hurt his groin a day earlier in practice. ``I was just trying to get going,'' said the all-star forward. ``Usually it's one of those things that when you get warm, you don't feel it. But it was a little painful making certain cuts, so I decided to take it easy. ``I'm sure after a good rest tomorrow and good treatment, I'll be ready to go Friday (when the Raptors host Cleveland).'' Juan-Carlos Navarro led the Grizzlies (5-10) with 15 points, while Pau Gasol had 13. Toronto outshot and outhustled the Grizzlies all night, blowing open the game with a second-quarter performance that saw them outscore their visitors 30-10. ``I think that's when they brought in their second unit, and I don't think there's really a dropoff when we bring anybody off the bench,'' Parker said. Toronto led by as much as 28 points in the third and took an 82-60 lead into the fourth quarter at the Air Canada Centre. The Grizzlies cut Toronto's advantage to 14 points on three-pointer by Tarence Kinsey with 1:51 left, but the game was well decided by that point. ``We were too stationary, we stood a lot, we weren't efficient and that's when they made their run and broke open the game,'' said Gasol. The Raptors also lost Bargnani with about 10 minutes to go in the game, when he banged knees with Stromile Swift. ``Now is better than when I was coming off the court, so we'll see tomorrow,'' Bargnani said. Calderon continues to fill in seamlessly for Ford, who missed his fourth straight game with an arm injury. Calderon has just two turnovers in his last three games _ and his lone giveaway Wednesday came just before he was subbed off, when Parker let a pass slip through his fingers. ``A.P. is killing me,'' Calderon joked afterwards. ``I just want to publicly apologize for the last turnover,'' Parker said. ``I dropped it.'' It wasn't all bad news on the injury front. Nesterovic played his first game after missing five with an ankle injury, and his size up front was certainly appreciated when both Bosh and Bargnani went out. The Raptors shot 51 per cent on the night, while holding the Grizzlies to 39 per cent, and Toronto outrebounded the visitors 46-38. ``We got to their shooters, we didn't let those guys get hot and get going and we did a good job on Pau Gasol,'' said Raptors coach Sam Mitchell. With four Spaniards on the two rosters, the game was billed as ``Spanish Night.'' The game was broadcast live in Spain, and some two dozen Spanish journalists were in attendance. Calderon and Jorge Garbajosa make up Toronto's Spanish contingent, while the Grizzlies have Gasol and Navarro. Garbajosa, though, is out indefinitely with surgery pending on the ankle he injured last March that ended his rookie season prematurely. The Grizzlies led 29-27 at the end of a first quarter that saw seven lead changes. Delfino led the way with 14 points in the second quarter and Toronto took an 18-point lead late in the frame on a Parker jump shot. The Raptors shot 68 per cent and held the Grizzlies to a woeful 16 per cent shooting in the quarter, and Toronto was up 57-39 at the break. The Raptors stretched their lead to 79-51 on a driving dunk by Parker with 4:21 left and left 82-60 with a quarter left to play. NOTES: The Raptors defeated the Grizzlies at Memphis last week. . . The game was the second of a three-game homestand. The Raptors host Cleveland on Friday, then play the Wizards at Washington on Saturday.

No matter how much his right ankle hurts, Vince Carter is going to give the New Jersey Nets everything he can as long as they still have playoff hopes. A day after the ankle prevented him from playing against Detroit, Carter returned to the lineup and scored 32 points to lead the Nets to a 99-90 victory over the struggling Toronto Raptors on Saturday night. ``This means a lot to me, just to be able to finish the season,'' Carter said. ``I consider myself one of the veterans and one of the leaders of this team, and I'm setting the bar and fighting through the end of the season. You never know. I'm playing to win and finish the season strong.'' Despite ending a four-game losing streak, the Nets' magic number for being eliminated from post-season contention was reduced to two when Atlanta beat Philadelphia earlier Saturday. Any combination of Nets' losses or Hawks' wins totalling two will eliminate New Jersey from post-season contention for the first time in seven years. ``We're not quite mathematically out,'' said Carter, who scored 21 second-half points on 8-of-11 shooting. ``Maybe we are counted out, that doesn't mean we don't come out hard and compete each and every night.'' Carter admitted the ankle hurts and that it might require surgery after the season. ``It feels better than yesterday,'' he said. ``I am going to fight through it and get it done.'' Richard Jefferson added 28 points and Devin Harris had 12 points and seven assists as the Nets won for only the fourth time in 11 games. ``Pride is a factor every night,'' Jefferson said. ``We're a prideful group, including myself. It's not like we win and we show pride. If we weren't able to get the win tonight, it's not that we don't care. Every night we are coming out and trying to give it our all.'' Rasho Nesterovic had 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead the playoff-bound Raptors, who lost their third straight and 11th in 15 games. Chris Bosh added 18 points for Toronto, which had all five starters score in double figures. The bench contributed 13 points on 6-of-22 shooting. ``You never want to go into the playoffs not playing your best basketball, and we definitely have been far from that,'' guard Anthony Parker said. ``It's just a matter of getting it going our way quick.'' The Raptors didn't arrive at the Izod Arena until an hour before the game because of traffic coming from New York City, and it took them a couple of quarters to get going. New Jersey led by as many as 10 points in the first quarter, eight at the half and by two going into the final quarter. Carter, who also added seven rebounds and five assists, then took over. He scored on four of the Nets' first five possessions, starting it with a finger-roll in the lane, before adding two free throws and two jumpers. Marcus Williams followed the second jumper with a three-pointer and New Jersey suddenly was ahead 89-78 with 8:11 to play. ``It says a lot about him as a person,'' Nets coach Lawrence Frank said. ``When you look at his ankle, it is very swollen. He had every opportunity to sit it out, if not shut it down, yet he continues to fight. Vince is a first-class person.'' Notes: For the second time in a week, the game was delayed in the second quarter by a shredded net. ... Jamario Moon made his 70th start, tying Damon Stoudamire (1995-96) for the Raptors rookie record. ... Nesterovic has scored in double figures in 14 straight games. ... Nets backup C DeSagana Diop was inactive with a knee injury. ... Backup Raptors G Jose Calderon picked up four fouls in the second quarter. ... Toronto, which came into the game leading the NBA in three-point field goal percentage (39.8 per cent), was 3-of-22 from long range (13.6 per cent).

The last time the Toronto Raptors and Milwaukee Bucks met, it was just four games into the NBA season, the Bucks came out on the winning side of a blowout, and Toronto star Chris Bosh was held to a single point. Friday night, that game was a distant memory, as Bosh poured in 32 points and the Raptors pounded Milwaukee 106-75, in a telling display of just how far they've come. ``That was early in the season, that was a different me, it was a different team back then,'' Bosh said afterwards. The Raptors have also finally figured out how to turn homecourt in their favour, with Friday's win marking their fifth straight triumph at the Air Canada Centre. ``That was the topic of discussion in the first half of the season, we weren't really taking advantage of our home court and we need to do that now,'' Bosh said. ``We just have to defend our home court because we're playing pretty good on the road right now so we just have to keep it going.'' Carlos Delfino added 18 points for the Raptors (24-19), who won for the seventh time in nine games overall. Jose Calderon finished with 11 points and 12 assists. Andrea Bargnani and Anthony Parker _ on a perfect six-for-six shooting _ finished with 13 points apiece, as the Raptors won five straight at home for the first time since March 21-April 15 of last season. The Raptors were coming off arguably their biggest win of the season, edging the league-leading Celtics 114-112 in Boston on Wednesday. They rode the momentum into Friday's game, and survived some sloppy play in the early going, finally breaking the game open with a 19-0 run _ their longest of the season _ in the third quarter. Calderon drained a three with 0.9 seconds on the clock for good measure to send the Raptors into the fourth up 79-53. ``When you only give up three field goals in a quarter, you are going to win a lot of basketball games,'' Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said. ``We felt like we did not play well in the first half and we wanted to come in in the third quarter and be a little more aggressive.'' The Raptors stretched their lead to 28 points just three minutes into the final quarter, and then Bosh and Calderon took a seat for the rest of the game. ``Every now and then it's nice to have a game like that where you can get guys out and they can kind of relax,'' Mitchell said. With Toronto's second unit on the floor for much of the fourth, the Raptors stretched their lead to 30 points on a pair of free throws by Kris Humphries with two minutes left as the Raptors cruised to victory. Michael Redd and former Raptor Charlie Villanueva had 12 points each to top the Bucks (17-27), who were playing their fourth game in five nights. The last time the two teams played, on Nov. 6, the Bucks routed the Raptors 112-85 in Milwaukee. Bosh had just a point, and the Raptors started combined for a woeful 28 points. The Raptors had 71 points between them Friday. Bosh has been rounding into form over the past few weeks, and put in another fine performance Friday, shooting 12-for-19 from the field and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line in an economical 35 minutes. Bosh said he didn't gain extra motivation from the previous loss to the Bucks. ``I don't get too hard on myself, I just put that stuff behind me,'' Bosh said. ``I just wanted to play my game, I didn't want to get too caught up in that because I would have been forcing stuff and shooting bad shots.'' Calderon doled out more assists than the entire Bucks team combined, as the Raptors' ball movement played a major factor in the win. The Raptors had 23 assists to Milwaukee's 11. Calderon's strong game may have helped his cause in the guard's bid to be named a reserve for the NBA all-star team. If not, the Spaniard's not sweating it. ``It's not my call,'' Calderon said. ``For me to be close (to making the all-star team) is really good, but it's up to the coaches. If I'm going, it's going to be a dream.'' The Raptors had another strong shooting night _ 51 per cent _ while holding the Bucks to 42. They also outrebounded the Bucks 42-36. Bosh led the way with 10 points in the first, and the Raptors shot a decent 47 per cent in the quarter to lead 23-20 heading into the second. Delfino connected on three shots from beyond the arc in the second quarter, his three with 1:31 left stretching Toronto's lead to six points. The Raptors led by eight before a three by Royal Ivey with 28 seconds on the clock cut Toronto's lead to 47-42 at the break. The Raptors raced out on their 19-0 run early in the third, a turnaround jumper by Bosh putting Toronto up 76-51. Calderon's three with less than a second left put Toronto up by 26 to end the third. NOTES: The Raptors visit Washington on Tuesday in the first game of a back-to-back series against the Wizards. They'll host the Wizards on Wednesday. . . NFL Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas was at the game.

Baron Davis says the Golden State Warriors play such a carefree, entertaining game that it's easy to forget every night is part of a fight for their playoff livelihood. The Toronto Raptors don't have any such concerns about making the post-season and maybe that was one reason Davis and his teammates were tougher in the final minutes Wednesday night. Monta Ellis scored 33 points and Davis had 23 points and 15 assists in the Warriors' seventh victory in eight games, 117-106 over the slumping yet still playoff-bound Raptors. Davis paced the Warriors' 40th victory of the season by ramping up his Warriors after T.J. Ford rallied Toronto midway through the fourth quarter to its first lead since the opening minute. Davis hit a jumper and had two exceptional assists in the next 90 seconds, giving Golden State a lead it wouldn't lose. The Warriors need every win they can get in the frighteningly competitive Western Conference, where a team could finish 20 games above .500 and miss the playoffs. Golden State is in eighth place at 40-23. ``I've never been involved in something this tight in my career,'' said Davis, the only Warriors player to appear in every game this season. ``This is just a tremendous time to be playing basketball. Every game is an opportunity to move up and see where we can finish.'' Stephen Jackson added 19 points for the Warriors, who overcame several awkward matchups with Toronto's larger lineup to beat the Raptors for the fourth straight time in Oakland and finish the regular season 20-10 against East teams. Golden State took an early 20-point lead before falling behind with 6 1/2 minutes to play, but Davis and Ellis confidently led a comeback for the Warriors' third straight win. Davis had 10 points including the Warriors' last seven _ and six assists in the final period. ``That's his quarter, and he seems to get it to a different level in the fourth quarter,'' Warriors coach Don Nelson said of Davis. ``He's one of those rare guys that can do that.'' Ford scored 13 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter for the Raptors, who lost for the sixth time in eight games. Anthony Parker added 22 points for Toronto, which lost to the Lakers one night earlier to open a five-game West Coast road trip. ``It's a tough back-to-back, but I don't think fatigue was a factor for us,'' Parker said. ``I thought we fought hard through it, and it was more about taking care of the ball and getting back on defence and limiting the fast-break baskets, which I think we did a better job of in the second half.'' Toronto played its seventh straight game without leading scorer Chris Bosh, who hopes to return from his sore right knee during the trip. Size wasn't the Raptors' problem, as Andrea Bargnani, Rasho Nesterovic and Kris Humphries all took turns scoring easily in the paint against Golden State's small-ball lineup. Despite their recent struggles culminating in their flat final minutes against Golden State, the Raptors (34-30) are solidly in fifth place in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. If the Raptors had the same record in the West, they would be 6 1/2 games behind Golden State in 10th place, out of the playoff race. ``We dug ourselves a big hole, and we fought so hard,'' Ford said. ``I think that happens a lot in the NBA. You work so hard, and we finally get right there, and they go on another run. We got the lead by one point, and then we just went into a drought.'' Golden State jumped to a 37-17 lead on Mickael Pietrus' dunk to open the second quarter, but Toronto stayed close largely thanks to Parker, who bested defence from both Davis and Ellis. The Warriors also missed 12 of their first 13 three-pointers before Jackson hit back-to-back shots in the third quarter. Notes: Warriors F Chris Webber still isn't ready to return from his left knee injury after a week of rehabilitation in Atlanta. Webber has missed Golden State's last five games, and Nelson has no idea when he'll return or if he'll be able to get in shape quickly enough to make the Warriors' playoff roster. ... Pietrus started and scored 14 points before fouling out with 3:35 to play. ... Golden State is two wins away from guaranteeing its second straight winning season after 12 straight losing campaigns.

Brandon Roy wasn't going to let a bout with the flu mess with the streak. Roy was ailing, but didn't play like it. He had 25 points, nine rebounds and eight assists to lead the Portland Trail Blazers to their ninth straight win, a 101-96 victory over the Toronto Raptors Wednesday night. "I was hurting a little bit, but we're doing something special right now so I didn't want that to get in the way,'' Roy said. Roy, the Western Conference player of the week for the past two weeks, was taking little time to savour the win, let alone ponder his health. "Nine is great but we're looking forward to 10,'' Roy said. Roy and the Blazers will get their chance on Friday when they host the Denver Nuggets. Portland, 11-3 at home and 14-12 overall, has won nine straight games for the first time since they won 12 in a row during the 2001-02 season. It was Roy's eighth game during the streak with 20 or more points. "He's not just having a hot streak,'' coach Nate McMillan said. "What we're seeing out of him is what he is capable of doing.'' After trailing the entire second half, the Blazers evened it at 87 on Travis Outlaw's free throws with 6:08 to go. Roy followed up with a layup to put Portland ahead. The Blazers held on to the slim lead, but Toronto appeared to gain momentum when Jose Calderon's layup narrowed it to 97-93 with 1:47 left. The Blazers deliberately slowed the pace with the lead, and went up 99-94 on James Jones' free throws when he was fouled by Jason Kapono with 11.7 seconds left. Chris Bosh's dunk got Toronto closer, but Jones was again fouled and made both of his shots for the final margin with 8.4 seconds to go. LaMarcus Aldridge, the Blazers' leading scorer and rebounder, returned after missing the last five games because of a heel injury. He had 15 points and seven rebounds, and Martell Webster also scored 15 points. Portland outscored Toronto 25-13 in the third quarter. Calderon had 18 points and nine assists for the Raptors, while Chris Bosh added 18 points and 11 rebounds. The Blazers beat visiting New Orleans 88-76 on Monday. The Raptors were coming off an 80-77 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night, the first of a seven-game road trip. "We didn't play the best game and we were on a second game of a back-to-back,'' Calderon said. "But we have to look at the positive side and try to work on that.'' The Raptors, winners of five of their previous six games, threatened several times in the first half to pull away, but couldn't extend the lead to more than double digits. The main obstacle was Roy, who was 6-for-7 from the field for 16 first-half points. Anthony Parker's three-pointer with 3:26 to go before the break put Toronto ahead 50-42, but Aldridge's jumper and Roy's three-pointer narrowed it again for the Blazers. Toronto stayed in front to lead 56-51 at the half. The Blazers were able to keep it close through the third quarter, and came within 76-74 on Webster's slam dunk. But then Toronto began to pull away, Parker hit a three-pointer before Kris Humphries added a hook shot and a layup to make it 83-76. Roy didn't practice Tuesday because of the flu. Over the course of the streak, he is averaging 24.2 points. "Brandon's playing at a level that probably only 10 other people in the league are playing at right now,'' Blazers' general manager Kevin Pritchard said. Notes: Toronto's T.J. Ford missed his fifth straight game because of a head injury sustained Dec. 11 against Atlanta. ... Several members of the Oregon State Beavers football team attended the game. The Beavers are preparing to play Maryland in the Emerald Bowl on Dec. 28. ... Also at the game was Boston Red Sox outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury, who is from Madras, Ore., and attended Oregon State. ... The Blazers now are on the best active winning streak in the NBA, after Denver lost to Detroit on Wednesday night.

TORONTO, Oct. 26 (AP) -- Andrea Bargnani had 17 points and eight rebounds to lead the Toronto Raptors to a 98-64 rout of the Washington Wizards in the final preseason game for both teams Friday night. Jason Kapono scored 12 points for Toronto, while Juan Dixon and Carlos Delfino finished with 10 apiece. DeShawn Stevenson had 12 points for the Wizards. The Raptors led from the outset Friday, making it look easy against a sloppy Wizards squad, and took a 29-point lead into the fourth quarter. With a collection of bench players for both teams on the court for the final few minutes, the athletic Jamario Moon scored on an alley-oop dunk that brought the crowd to its feet with just under two minutes to play. Luke Jackson sunk a 3-pointer the next time down the floor to make it 96-64 for Toronto, and the Raptors cruised to an easy win to finish their exhibition schedule 5-2. The Wizards dropped to 4-4. Toronto has looked solid in its past two games, and has plenty of reason to be optimistic about the regular season, which starts Wednesday when the Raptors host the Philadelphia 76ers in their opener. Toronto shot 49 percent and held Washington to 37 percent shooting. The Raptors outrebounded the Wizards 47-30.

SALT LAKE CITY - Reserve point guard Ronnie Price sparked the Utah Jazz and got under the skin of the Toronto Raptors. Price had 13 points, five assists and directed a decisive fourth-quarter run as the Jazz tied a franchise record with their 19th straight home victory, a 96-79 win over the Toronto Raptors on Monday night. ``My job is to bring energy when I step on the floor,'' Price said. ``The starters on this team play a lot of minutes so I don't have a lot of time to make an impression.'' The third-year pro who backs up Deron Williams played less than 10 total minutes in the second halves of the last four games. On Monday, the Jazz outscored the Raptors by 25 points in the 13 minutes Price played. He quarterbacked the Jazz to a 24-4 run in the first 6:27 of the fourth quarter to turn a tie game into a blowout. Price had two driving layups, three assists and some pesky defence on T.J. Ford, who erupted after getting called for an offensive foul. Ford had to be restrained by teammate Jason Kapono from charging referee Eddie F. Rush. The feisty Raptor guard was whistled for two technicals and ejected. ``I have been playing against T.J. since I was about eight years old in Texas,'' Price said. ``I have so much respect for him and we have had a lot of battles over the years. From the moment he entered the game, he looked like he had an aggressive attitude. I knew I had to match that with my own intensity.'' Williams scored 21 points and liked the view from the bench. ``Our second group did a great job,'' he said. ``They carried us pretty much the whole game. Kyle (Korver) was hitting shots, Ronnie was playing great defence, hitting shots and frustrating people out there.'' Carlos Boozer had 13 points and 10 rebounds but left the game two minutes early with a muscle strain on the left side of his back. He is probable on Thursday against the Los Angeles Lakers when Utah can break its franchise record for longest home winning streak, which was set from Jan. 19-March 29, 1996 and again from Dec. 13, 1989 to March 3, 1990. Jazz starting centre Mehmet Okur left the game in the first quarter due to the stomach flu. But Korver scored 17 points on 6-for-7 shooting as the Jazz reserves outscored their Toronto counterparts 47-30. Okur will be a game-time decision on Thursday. ``In the last part of the ballgame, we got a little life, ran the floor and made some nice moves to the basket,``Utah coach Jerry Sloan said. ``his was our fifth game in seven days, so we were a bit sluggish at the start.'' Jose Calderon had 16 points to lead the Raptors, who extended a season-long losing skid to five games. All those losses have come on the road against Western Conference teams without leading scorer and rebounder Chris Bosh. Toronto is 2-8 since Bosh went out of the lineup with a sore right knee. Rasho Nestorovic had 13 points and a season-high 12 rebounds in his place, but Andrea Bargnani shot 2-for-11 and the Raptors connected on only 40 per cent as a team. The Raptors summoned a final surge in the third quarter, tying it at 65-65 on Jamario Moon's jumper with 10 seconds left in the period. But when Price picked up the tempo and Ford lost his cool in the fourth quarter, the Raptors unraveled. ``Frustration, just frustration,'' Ford said. ``The game was tied and they were able to take the momentum. We kept trying to fight and fight but things just weren't going our way.'' The Jazz have won six straight against the Raptors and have not lost at home since a 104-98 defeat to Boston on Dec. 29, 2007. Notes: Williams got a technical foul for arguing with Rush just before halftime and nearly got another in the third quarter as he angrily tried to point out a moving screen. ... The two teams combined to miss 14 straight field goal attempts in a hapless stretch of the first quarter. ... Korver celebrated his 27th birthday Monday. ... Andrea Bargnani left the court at the end of the third quarter after he was hit with Moon's elbow in a scramble for the ball. X-rays were negative. ... The Raptors wore special green uniforms in honour of St. Patrick's Day.
