After a quick trip to the hospital, Chris Bosh walked into the Toronto Raptors dressing room and delivered the lone bit of good news for the night. In the wake of a right knee injury to the all-star forward and a dreadful performance by the Raptors in a 122-111 loss to the short-handed Indiana Pacers Friday before a sellout crowd of 19,800 at the Air Canada Centre, Bosh said he does not expect the setback to be a major hindrance. ``It's alright,'' said Bosh, who exited the game late in the first quarter. ``It feels good when I'm walking around. Walking around and playing in a game are two different things. But I'm real optimistic about everything.'' A team spokesman said diagnostic testing at Mount Sinai Hospital showed Bosh did not have any structural damage. Bosh, who tweaked the knee Monday in a win in Indiana, will undergo normal treatment in the next few days and expects to accompany the team on a three-game road swing that starts Sunday in Charlotte against the Bobcats. [ ] ``I think I know my body now,'' said Bosh, who missed five games with a strained right groin earlier this season and was hobbled by a left knee injury in the pre-season. ``I've had things similar to this. I know if I take care of it, it will be fine real soon.'' The Raptors (32-25), meanwhile, weren't even close to fine without Bosh on Friday. Toronto's three-game winning streak came to an end, despite a 27-point night from up-and-down sophomore Andrea Bargnani. The Pacers (23-36) snapped their three-game losing skid. Indiana, missing three of its top four scorers, had little difficulty penetrating against the Raptors and set a Toronto opponent season-high with 26 free throws. When they weren't going to the line, the Pacers kicked it out for open shots, with the prime beneficiary being Pacers forward Mike Dunleavy, who tied career highs with 36 points and six three-pointers. With the Pacers flying by Toronto, Raptors coach Sam Mitchell went to an unusual lineup featuring both of his point guards _ T.J. Ford and Jose Calderon _ at times. While it was effective for stretches, ultimately the Raptors couldn't find a combination to slow the Pacers down. ``We were just trying to put some people in the game we thought had a chance to keep somebody in front of us,'' Mitchell said. ``We were just getting beat at almost every spot. It's tough when you swing the ball to every spot and they're beating you off the dribble ... It just breaks down and breaks down and breaks down.'' The Raptors went on a 15-0 run in the third quarter to cut a 16-point deficit to one, but they never tied the game or led in the second half. Mitchell certainly wasn't using Bosh's injury as an excuse. ``That's why you've got to be ready to play,'' he said. ``Everybody complains about minutes, what are you going to do when you get our chance? Everybody look in the mirror and when you get your opportunity to play, go play. Go do something, be a presence on the court, bring some energy. Do the things that we work on every single day in practice.'' The troubled Pacers were dealing with all sorts of problems and dressed only 10 players. In the latest off-court problem for a team that seems to specialize in making negative headlines away from the arena, forward Shawne Williams learned Wednesday a man had been arrested on a Tennessee murder warrant soon after leaving his Indianapolis home Meanwhile, three of the Pacers' top four scorers also were out. Forward Danny Granger was suspended earlier Friday for one game after striking the Chicago Bulls' Andres Nocioni in the face, while star forward Jermaine O'Neal and guard Jamaal Tinsley were nursing knee injuries. What's more, detectives in the Indiana area are investigating a woman's report that she was sexually assaulted in the home of Pacers guard Marquis Daniels on Sunday. Daniels, who played Friday, is not a suspect in the case. Notes: After helping guide the injury-riddled Ford back to the court, John Lucas has earned a spot with the organization as a basketball development consultant. The Raptors announced the appointment of Lucas, a former NBA head coach, to the position before a game Friday against the Indiana Pacers at the Air Canada Centre. Lucas' primary responsibility will be working with Ford ... Toronto blew a chance to sweep the four-game season series against the Pacers ... Raptors forward Joey Graham and twin brother Stephen Graham of the Pacers suited up for opposite teams in the same building Friday. Both spend most of their time on the bench with their respective teams, though Stephen took advantage of the short bench Friday and scored a career-high 16 points, prompting one fan to yell, ``Joey, why can't you play like your brother?''

Mike Dunleavy scored 23 points and Jamaal Tinsley added 19 points and 10 assists for the Pacers (11-12). The Raptors took their first lead of the game, 81-80, on Kapono's three-pointer with nine minutes left. Bosh made six of eight shots for Toronto in the first half, but the rest of the team made 12 of 33. Indiana took a 66-49 lead in the third quarter before the Raptors went on an 11-0 run that included six points and two assists by Calderon to cut the edge to 66-60. Indiana's Kareem Rush hit a three-pointer, and Dunleavy followed with a basket to stretch the lead to 71-60. The Pacers led 75-69 at the end of the third quarter. The Pacers shot 7-for-21 from the field in the fourth quarter. Notes: Toronto G T.J. Ford missed the game with an arm stinger. He was injured Tuesday night when Atlanta rookie Al Horford struck him on the head and knocked him down as he was trying to score on a breakaway. Ford also missed Wednesday's game against Dallas. ... Indiana C Jeff Foster, inactive Wednesday against Chicago, entered the game with 4:23 left in the first quarter. ... Indiana Pacers coach Jim O'Brien thinks the Toronto Raptors might have the best set of backups in the NBA. Toronto's reserves scored 55 points, led by Carlos Delfino's 23, in a 102-98 win Monday night. T.J Ford had 16 points and seven assists in 26 minutes, the most he's played since missing 24 games with an arm stinger. ``It's hard for anybody in the NBA to match bench for bench,'' O'Brien said. ``That's a formidable group, and it speaks to their depth that those players come off the bench.'' Delfino, who was 6-for-7 on three-pointers, and Ford gave Chris Bosh all the help he needed. Bosh had 24 points and 10 rebounds. The Raptors seemed happiest with Ford's performance. He played two more minutes than starter Jose Calderon and played the entire fourth quarter. ``With our guys getting healthy, I think we now have a second-team punch with T.J. getting into shape and into rhythm,'' Delfino said. ``It opens things up for us offensively, and it sure can change our game.'' Toronto coach Sam Mitchell said there's no controversy at his point-guard position. ``Jose played a lot of minutes,'' Mitchell said. ``When T.J. comes into the game, he gives you a different look, and when Jose comes into the game, he gives you a different look.'' Bosh said there's no need for controversy. ``Him (Ford) and Jose can split time, whoever's playing the best, or they can play together,'' he said. Indiana forward Danny Granger said Ford looked like his old self. ``He's got something you can't really teach, and that's speed,'' he said. ``He's the fastest guy on the court, and when he lines you up one on one, he's hard to guard.'' Granger and Marquis Daniels each had 20 points, and Granger added 10 rebounds for the Pacers. The Raptors have won all three meetings with the Pacers this season and won four of their last five overall. Toronto led by eight at halftime, but Indiana trimmed its deficit to 58-55 on a layup by Mike Dunleavy. After the Pacers tied it at 69 on a driving layup and a short jumper by Daniels with two minutes left in the third quarter, Indiana took a 75-74 lead. Delfino made two free throws to tie it at 77 at the end of the period. Indiana led 86-84 before Toronto went on a 13-2 run that included two 3-pointers by Delfino to take a 97-88 lead with just over four minutes to play. A dunk and a turnaround jumper by Daniels cut Toronto's lead to 101-98 with 40 seconds to play. Ford missed a finger roll on the other end and Granger rebounded, giving the Pacers a chance to force overtime. Kareem Rush missed a three-pointer with 11 seconds left, and Toronto's Anthony Parker rebounded and was fouled. Parker missed the first free throw, but made the second to put the game out of reach. The Pacers said Delfino was the difference. ``He didn't miss,'' Granger said. ``We let him get open a few too many times. Anybody in the NBA can make those shots when you're that far open. He put the dagger in us.'' Bosh said the performance by Delfino wasn't surprising. Delfino ranks in the top 20 in the league in three-point percentage. ``When he gets hot, he's going to let it go,'' Bosh said. ``He's done a great job all year. He also does a great job on the defensive end. He also got to the free-throw line again tonight. He just helped us out a lot.'' The Pacers were left to try to figure out how they let another big lead get away. Indiana led by 13 in the first quarter, and led briefly late in the third quarter. ``We try to make adjustments,'' Granger said. ``That is one of the drawbacks of the style that we play. We make runs and we give up runs. If we could cut off some of those runs, we'd probably be in a different situation right now.'' Notes: Pacers F Jermaine O'Neal missed his 16th straight game with a bone bruise on his left knee. He didn't attend the game because he has the flu. ... Pacers G Jamaal Tinsley has missed 11 of the past 14 games with a sore left knee. ... Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy attended the game. ... Former Pacers Primoz Brezec and Maceo Baston are on Toronto's roster. Brezec, Indiana's first-round pick in 2000, didn't play. Baston was inactive. ... The Pacers shot 50 per cent from the field in the first quarter and led 30-19.

The Indiana Pacers are making a bad habit of falling apart in the second half. Chris Bosh scored 22 points, Jose Calderon added 15 points and 10 assists, and the Toronto Raptors beat the Pacers 110-101 on Friday night, handing Indiana its sixth straight defeat. The Pacers have blown halftime leads in four of those losses. "I don't know what it is,'' Indiana's Jamaal Tinsley said. "I've been here seven years and it seems like the same thing. It's frustrating when you go out there and play good for one half ,and in the second half you lay an egg. We've got to get together some way, somehow. It's getting frustrating. You get tired of hearing the same old thing.'' Anthony Parker and T.J. Ford each scored 15 points as Toronto ended a three-game home losing streak. Jason Kapono scored 12 points and Carlos Delfino had 11. Tinsley said the Raptors were "more determined'' in the second half. Toronto shot 50 percent after the break. "They hit some unbelievable shots,'' Pacers coach Jim O'Brien said. "They just opened the court and were able to knock down a lot of challenged threes.'' The Raptors, who never lost more than two straight home games last season, were pleased to end their mini-slump. "We feel like we got a little monkey off our backs,'' rookie Jamario Moon said. Tinsley and Troy Murphy each scored 20 points for the Pacers (3-6), who have not won since a road victory over Memphis on Nov. 3. Bosh made just five of 15 field goal attempts, but connected on 12 of 13 from the free throw line. Despite another poor shooting night, Bosh isn't losing confidence. "When they start going in, it's going to be trouble for a lot of people,'' he said. A jumper by Tinsley and free throws by Tinsley and Jeff Foster cut Toronto's lead to 101-98 with 1:07 left, but Calderon responded with a 3-pointer with 48 seconds remaining that pushed Toronto's lead back to six. "I don't think they lost the game, I think we won it,'' Calderon said. "We played really good defense in the fourth quarter.'' Jermaine O'Neal scored 14 points for Indiana. O'Brien credited Toronto with trapping O'Neal in the low post, and said his team didn't do enough with the open looks those traps created. "We need to knock down shots when he's trapped,'' O'Brien said. "We didn't do that on a consistent basis, and God knows we had enough open looks.'' Indiana led 56-53 at the half, but the Raptors opened the third quarter with a 13-4 run, capped by a three-point play by Ford that gave them a 67-60 lead with 6:47 remaining. Tinsley replied with a pair of 3-pointers sandwiched around another basket by Ford to pull the Pacers back. Parker ended the third with a 70-footer, giving Toronto an 81-74 edge. Indiana's Danny Granger was called for a flagrant foul on Moon with 4:50 to go in the third, knocking Moon down as the Toronto rookie went up for a dunk. Moon crashed into the pads at the base of the basket and came up clutching his right ankle, but remained in the game. Indiana outrebounded Toronto 47-35. Notes: Indiana guard Marquis Daniels (left knee) did not dress. ... Toronto was without center Rasho Nesterovic (sprained right ankle). ... Bosh has made 46 of his past 49 free throws. ... Toronto's 110 points were a season high.

February 20, 2008 INDIANAPOLIS, Ind -- With all due respect to the league's top talent, Cleveland coach Mike Brown considers the MVP race over. LeBron James had his second consecutive triple-double, with 31 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists, and the Cavaliers beat the Indiana Pacers 106-97 on Wednesday night. Brown was most impressed that James got the triple-doubles on back-to-back nights on the road. He had 26 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists in Tuesday's loss at Houston. "LeBron -- what can I say? He's the MVP. He's the MVP this year. I don't care how many games are left or what not," Brown said. "This guy is terrific. He just does everything out on the floor." James said he takes pride in doing it all. "I just go out and try to play my game," he said. "My game is not just go out and score, it's about getting others involved and helping each other on the defensive end." James had 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists in the final 12 minutes. The fourth quarter was virtually even until James went up for a rebound and landed on Indiana's Travis Diener. Diener was called for a foul, and Indiana coach Jim O'Brien got a technical for disagreeing with the call. Cleveland made two of three free throws to take a 99-94 lead. Larry Hughes followed with a 3-pointer to make it 102-94 with 1:39 to go. Granger responded with a 3 of his own, but Indiana got no closer. "I'm going to get us in the best position to make plays in the fourth quarter, either if I'm handling the ball or playing off the ball," James said. "I attract so much attention that a lot of guys get some open looks. The biggest look of the night was Larry hitting the dagger in the corner. That was a big shot." It was James' sixth triple-double of the season and the 16th of his career, and it helped the Cavaliers end a two-game losing streak. Hughes added 19 points and Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 14 points and 17 rebounds, but Cleveland lost guard Daniel Gibson to a sprained left ankle in the third quarter. The Cavaliers entered with 11 players having missed a combined 120 games this season due to injury. Gibson's injury just seemed like more of the same for Cleveland. "Not another. Not again," James said. "Once again, we lose one of our top-six players, top-seven players in our lineup because of injury. We don't have a timetable for how long he's going to be out, but we're going to have to have somebody else step up. We did it tonight." Danny Granger scored 30 points, Troy Murphy 20 and Jeff Foster had nine points and 15 rebounds for the Pacers, who lost their third straight. "This was another game we could have won," Granger said. "We choked and made bad plays at the end. They hit shots when they needed to. We didn't." Brown said slowing Granger late was a key to Cleveland's win. Granger shot 2-for-8 in the fourth quarter. "We did a better job trying to make him work for his shots a little bit more in the second half." Cleveland has won six straight against Pacers, including all three meetings this season. James had a triple-double in their last meeting in Indianapolis -- 30 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists -- in Cleveland's 111-106 win. Gibson made all five of his 3-point attempts in the first half to help the Cavaliers take a 60-54 lead. Cleveland shot 60 percent from the field before the break and shot 8-of-13 from 3-point range. Granger had 18 points in the first half to keep the Pacers in it. Indiana started the second half hot, and Granger made a 3-pointer to give the Pacers a 67-66 lead with just under eight minutes left in the third quarter. A basket by Foster and a 3-pointer by Murphy made it 72-66 and forced a Cleveland timeout. Gibson sprained his ankle when Diener collided with him as they were diving for a loose ball. Gibson was helped off the court by teammates, and he didn't return. Cleveland chipped Indiana's lead to 81-79 at the end of the third quarter before making its 19th fourth-quarter comeback of the season. "We just have a confidence that we're never out of a game, no matter how many points we're down," Brown said. "I don't like to play that way. Seems like the players are OK with it. Hopefully that will change soon."

This is my second attempt at presenting a video on Youtube. The video was shot with a Samsung still camera, using NBA2K8 footage. The song is by DJ Delivery and licensed for share through Creative Commons. Here is the link. http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.0/ The video is a what if scenario of a low round NBA draft pick who becomes an overnight star for the Indiana Pacers on a special night against the Chicago Bulls and beyond. This is pure fantasy. As I like to think there is an Alec Becker in us all. Enjoy

In years before, if you took away MJ's driving lanes, he'd kill you from the outside. If you took away his jumper with perimeter double teams, he'd kill you with his drives. If you tried to do both, he'd kill you with creativity, mental will and wisdom. At the age of 39, father time and injury took away his legs but it could not take away his mind. His mind alone was still good for 40 points and whenever a tough old rival like the Pacers or an old adversary like Miller was around, MJ was always his usual 'old' self - entering his 'zone' - conquering matter with his mind. In this game, MJ's wisdom provided the clutch efficiency to bring the lagging Wizards into OT. With 18 points in the last 6:30 of the 4th quarter, MJ pushed his team to victory in double-OT with his usual clutch defense. Perhaps the young and athletic Jermaine O'Neal reminded MJ of the days when the Great Centers elevated his game. Whatever the case, in year 2 of the NBA's allowance of 'zone' defense, there was still some hand-checking around (unlike today). But the only 'zone' that mattered was his own. With real battles against time and injury to fight instead of silly new rules placed in his wake to help his pseudo-imitators, MJ was making history with a record 41pts at age 39 - a record he would shatter just one month later with 45 points against the Hornets.
