Even without three of their top players, the injury-riddled Toronto Raptors had no problem handling the Charlotte Bobcats on Monday. Kris Humphries and Carlos Delfino scored 17 points apiece to top Toronto in a 98-79 win over Charlotte, sending the slumping Bobcats to their sixth straight loss. The Raptors were missing starters Chris Bosh (groin), T.J. Ford (arm) and Andrea Bargnani (knee). But the Raptors' depth proved their saviour once again, with six players scoring in double figures. Joey Graham had 13 points in his first start of the season. Jose Calderon had 12 points and nine assists, Anthony Parker added 11 points and Jason Kapono finished with 10. Rookie Jamario Moon added 12 rebounds for Toronto (10-8). Gerald Wallace scored 19 points to lead the Bobcats (6-10). The Raptors never trailed Monday, and were up by as many as 21 points before heading into the fourth quarter with a 76-59 advantage. The Bobcats scored the first four points of the fourth to cut Toronto's lead to 13 points. But the game was never in doubt, and the Raptors were up by 20 points with 5:11 left when Humphries finished a series of nifty passes with a dunk that brought the crowd of 17,439 to its feet. A driving layup by Humphries with just under a minute left gave Toronto a 22-point lead en route to the team's fourth consecutive win at the Air Canada Centre. The Raptors shot 51 per cent on the night and held the Bobcats to 33 per cent shooting. They also outrebounded the visitors 46-35. But while the Raptors had a relatively easy time with the struggling Bobcats, they could use their injured threesome back Wednesday when they host Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns. Bosh, the team's leading scorer and rebounder, missed his third consecutive game with a strained right groin. Ford, the starting point guard, missed his fifth game with a ``stinger'' in his arm, a nerve irritation that radiates down the arms. Calderon has played superbly in Ford's absence and Monday was no different. On one frenzied sequence in the second quarter, the hard-working guard fell down but kept his dribble going, only to have his layup ring around the basket then fall out. But he raced downcourt, stole the ball off Okafor then finished with a driving layup. Bargnani sat out with a hyper-extended left knee, suffered in Saturday's 101-97 loss to the Washington Wizards. All three injured players are listed as day-to-day. The Raptors came out strong, shooting a sizzling 55 per cent in the first quarter and taking a 22-8-point advantage on a layup by Calderon late in the frame. They led 27-16 heading into the second quarter. The Raptors opened the second on a 13-5 run, a three-pointer by Darrick putting the home team up 40-21. Toronto held the Bobcats to 28 per cent shooting in the first half and led 54-33 at the break. The Bobcats opened the third quarter with a 9-0 run to creep back to within 12 points, but they could get no closer. The Raptors stretched their lead to 69-49 on a three by Delfino, and were up 76-59 heading into the final quarter. NOTES: Following Wednesday's game against the Suns, the Raptors head to Boston to face the Celtics on Friday...The Raptors won a team-record 30 games at home last season, but never more than three in a row.

hris Bosh, in his nice-looking suit on the bench, had as many second-chance points as his Toronto Raptors teammates. Zero. In a listless performance against one of the NBA's worst teams, the Bosh-less Raptors gave up 30 points to Charlotte's Jason Richardson, and allowed the Bobcats to dominate the glass in a 110-98 win on Sunday. With their top scorer and rebounder sidelined for perhaps a week with a sore right knee, the Raptors gave up 32 second-chance points. The Bobcats had a 50-37 rebounding advantage in snapping a five-game losing streak. Toronto hardly looked like a team trying to secure home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. ``We didn't take the team lightly, because if we took them lightly they wouldn't have shot 43 per cent,'' Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said. ``The tough things, we didn't do them. We didn't box out. They beat us up on the glass. There's nothing else to say.'' Richardson, taking over the brunt of the scoring with Gerald Wallace out indefinitely following a severe concussion, hit 10 of 24 shots and all seven free throws. Rookie Jared Dudley added a career-high 17 points and 10 rebounds for Charlotte, which won for only the second time in 14 games. ``We're going to continue to fight,'' coach Sam Vincent said. Anthony Parker scored 24 points and Bosh's fill-in, Rasho Nesterovic, added 16 points, but 13 came in the first quarter. Andrea Bargnani also failed to step up his game with Toronto's three-time All-Star in street clothes, finishing with six points and five rebounds on 2-of-8 shooting. ``I think we were soft tonight, very soft,'' centre Primoz Brezec said. ``We've got to man up a little bit. Our focus was not there.'' The Bobcats, who essentially acknowledged they are no longer in the playoff hunt when they waived veteran guard Jeff McInnis on Friday, used a young lineup to dominate the second half. Dudley played 36 minutes and his three-pointer with 3:43 left ended Toronto's comeback hopes. Matt Carroll, starting for Wallace, scored 15 points. Even second-round pick Jermareo Davidson had four points in 15 minutes. ``We're just playing out there,'' Richardson said of the Bobcats' carefree attitude. ``We're undermanned, so we're just going out there and playing for pride right now.'' It was an embarrassing night for the Raptors, two nights after Bosh limped off the floor in the fourth quarter of Friday's loss to Indiana. The Raptors didn't appear to miss him in building an 11-point first-half lead, only to implode after halftime. Charlotte had an 18-2 run and outscored the Raptors 34-21 in the third quarter. Raymond Felton, back as the primary point guard with McInnis jettisoned, added 17 points, eight assists and one turnover. ``Ray was really aggressive of getting the ball and pushing it in transition,'' Vincent said. ``That really created some real nice buckets for us.'' The Bobcats built the lead to 84-70 in the first minute of the fourth quarter. They held on thanks to the rebounding domination, led by Emeka Okafor's 15 boards to go with 14 points. ``It's not the first time this has happened,'' Mitchell said of the rebounding discrepancy. ``It's happened to us too often. I understand that's a weakness of our basketball team. But that's no excuse. ``You've got to put a body and you've got to go and get the basketball.'' Notes: Wallace watched from the bench, the first time he was around the team since he was knocked unconscious against Sacramento on Feb. 22. Coach Sam Vincent said Wallace is scheduled to undergo more tests this week and hopes he'll be cleared to play soon. ... Vincent said there was no urgency to fill McInnis' roster spot. ... Raptors C Primoz Brezec, who criticized Vincent before the game for not using him properly, had four points and four fouls in 11 minutes against his former team.

Quiet Chris Bosh is suddenly talking all over the court, and the Toronto Raptors hope the newfound motormouth will lead them on a playoff run. Bosh put up offensive numbers consistent with his All-Star season on Monday night: 32 points, eight rebounds and 13 of 16 free-throw shooting. But the striking scene in the Raptors' 104-100 win over the Charlotte Bobcats was the sight of Bosh yelling out instructions on defense, warning teammates of back screens and announcing double-teams. It's something Bosh, never one to light up a room with boisterous conversation, decided he must do. "Sometimes I catch myself being quiet, but then I have to pick it back up and start talking again," Bosh said. "I'm not a talker by nature. That's how I am naturally. So I know I have to step outside of myself because I really like winning." The Raptors need wins as they try to avoid slipping to seventh place in the Eastern Conference and a likely first-round playoff matchup with powerful Detroit. Their third win in four games kept them alone in sixth, a game ahead of idle Philadelphia. Bosh was the difference as Toronto avenged a 22-point loss to Charlotte on March 2 when the Bobcats held a 32-0 edge on second-chance points. Bosh didn't play in that game. With the Raptors' talkative big man clogging the middle, Charlotte managed only seven offensive rebounds as its three-game winning streak was snapped. "I thought Rasho (Nesterovic) and Chris, I could hear them talking on defense," Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said. "Rasho is rubbing off on Chris, as far as communicating in the back." Nesterovic added 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Anthony Parker scored 20 points and T.J. Ford added 15, including the clinching free throw with 1.9 seconds left. Jason Richardson scored 18 of his 26 points in the first half for the Bobcats. Gerald Wallace scored 20 points and Emeka Okafor had 18 points and 12 rebounds. Charlotte's faint playoff hopes took a hit, thanks to 45-percent shooting against that noisy defense. "If you call out a cross screen, guys are always looking to see where screens are coming and they are no surprises," Bosh said. They won't get stood up by a screen, that's how you get beat backdoor. "If you talk, that makes the offense hesitate, too. If you say you're coming to double, the guy is going to wait on you a little bit, and that kind of stalls them. There are advantages all the way around." The defense helped carry Toronto in a game of large momentum shifts. The Raptors made 17 straight shots in the first quarter, fell behind by 10 in the second, then pulled away in the second half against the Bobcats, who were playing only their second home game in more than three weeks. Richardson's 3-pointer with 2.7 seconds left cut Toronto's lead to 103-100. Ford was fouled, and made the second of two free throws, ending Charlotte's chances. "I think it was just the backlash of the West Coast trip," said Wallace of Charlotte's first game following a 3-2 trip that included a win at the Los Angeles Lakers. "Our legs just weren't in it tonight." The weary Bobcats, who had played 10 of their last 11 on the road, were no match for the energetic Bosh. He made 9 of 20 shots and added five assists in 46 minutes. It's what the Raptors need to break out of their doldrums following last season's division title. "He's huge," Richardson said. "He's their leader. He's their superstar. He does a lot of things and had a great game." Notes: Wallace, who has sustained four concussions in four seasons, had no problems after taking a forearm to the throat and hitting his head on teammate Emeka Okafor's knee during Saturday's game. ``He's going to get bumped, he's going to get knocked,'' coach Sam Vincent said. ``It's just how he plays.'' ... F Jamario Moon was back in Toronto's starting lineup after Jason Kapono went scoreless in his place Sunday. Moon scored 15 points and Kapono never got in the game.

Last season, the Toronto Raptors celebrated a trip to the playoffs on a plane after securing a post-season berth with a win in Philadelphia. The mood probably wasn't as jovial on a flight to New Jersey Friday night after the struggling Raptors (38-38) took the back door into the 2007-08 playoffs. Less than an hour after a frustrating 105-100 loss to the lowly Charlotte Bobcats (29-47) before a sellout crowd of 19,800 at the Air Canada Centre, the Raptors clinched a post-season berth for just the fifth time in their 13-year history when the Detroit Pistons beat the New Jersey Nets 106-87. The Raptors could drop under .500 for the first time since they were 6-7 on Nov. 24 with a loss Saturday against the Nets. If the playoffs started now, the Raptors would be in seventh spot in the Eastern Conference and facing a scary first-round matchup against the playoff-tested Detroit Pistons. The Raptors are a game behind the Philadelphia 76ers and the Washington Wizards (both 39-37), who are tied for the fifth spot. Even though the playoffs were all but a foregone conclusion weeks ago, Raptors star Chris Bosh seemed to indicate these are desperate times for his team. When asked if the team has enough time to turn it around with six games left in the season, Bosh said: ``I have no idea. We're not acting like it to be honest. We have to play like the time is now and I don't think we're doing a good job of doing that''. Once again an athletic swingman _ the Bobcats' Jason Richardon_- had his way with the Raptors defence, scoring a game-high 27 points. Guard Raymond Felton added 21 with 14 in the fourth quarter. ``We're just not executing on defence when we need to,'' Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said. ``We have stretches where we play good defence and then we have stretches where we just don't. You can't do that trying to make the playoffs or going into the playoffs.'' Rasho Nesterovic tied Bosh with 23 points, a season-high for the Slovenian centre, who also had 10 rebounds. For the second game in a row, the Raptors couldn't wrap up a playoff spot on their own against a weaker opponent. The Bobcats outscored the Raptors 31-24 in the fourth quarter as they made a point of driving to the basket and battling for offensive rebounds. A steal by pint-sized point guard Earl Boykins off Raptors point guard T.J. Ford and an ensuing three-point play was the dagger. With less than 50 seconds left and the Raptors trailing 98-97, Boykins stripped the ball away from a dribbling Ford and raced down the court. He converted a lay-up and was fouled by Ford before putting the Bobcats up 101-97 with 41 seconds left on a free-throw. ``I don't think that one play dictates the whole game,'' said Ford, who was having a strong game up until that point as he tied a season-high with 14 assists. ``I think we've just got to do a better job in the fourth quarters. We're going into the fourth quarter with leads and we're not doing a good job of protecting them.'' While Ford is playing well, he also has made some key mistakes down the stretch in the past two games. In Atlanta on Wednesday, Ford failed to foul Mike Bibby, who hit a game-tying three-pointer with 0.5 seconds left in the fourth quarter, leading to an overtime win for the Hawks. Toronto, the top three-point shooting team in the NBA, couldn't keep runs going because of their inability to hit the three-point shot in the opening half as they missed all six of their attempts. The Raptors finally hit a three on a Jamario Moon shot with 7:28 left in the third quarter, extending the team's record streak of hitting at least one three to 772 games. Notes: Bobcats starting forward Gerald Wallace left the game at halftime with left groin soreness. Matt Carroll took his spot to open the second half ... Since returning to the starting lineup, Ford is averaging 14.4 points and 8.8 assists in five games ... Nesterovic scored in double figures for the 12th game in a row.
